Mittelgrosse Landmasse auf der Erde begrenzt durch Nordsee, Polarmeer, Ural, Bosporus, Mittelmeer und Atlantik. Dient auch als Bezeichnung für alle Staaten im Bereich dieser Landmasse.
Die Namensgeberin des Kontinents Europa war eine phönizische Prinzessin. Ihre Eltern sind Agenor von Tyros und die Teleohassa, ihre Geschwister Kadmos, Kilix, Thasos und Phönix. Als ihre Mutter wird auch Agrippine, Tochter des Nilus, genannt, bei Homer findet sich Phönix als Vater.
Europa soll von außerordentlicher Schönheit gewesen sein, nicht zuletzt deshalb weil sie von Angelos (Hekate) die Schminke von deren Mutter Hera erhalten hatte. Das betörte den Gott Zeus derart, dass er den Hermes anwies, die Rinderherde von Europas Vater ans Ufer des Meeres zu treiben unter die sich Zeus, verwandelt in einen weißen Stier, mischte. Das schöne Tier verleitete Europa dazu, seinen Rücken zu besteigen. Die weitere Fortsetzung gehört in das Kapitel "Erotische Geschichten".
