Destruction on the Menin Road, Belgium, 1917. The picture is one of chaos and devastation. On top of the rise which is visible on the horizon, men, horses and carriages are silhouetted. Some of the men seem to be moving rubble on to the carriages. The focus of the front of the picture is a pool of water which has formed at the bottom of a very muddy ditch - possibly a crater caused by artillery fire.
