Canon ist ein japanisches Unternehmen mit Sitz in Tokio, das 1933 gegründet wurde. Das ursprüngliche Ziel des Unternehmens war, preisgünstige Nachbauten der damals weit verbreiteten Kleinbildkameras von Leica, Contax und Rolleiflex herzustellen. Die offizielle japanische Unternehmensbezeichnung lautete ursprünglich Kwanon (die buddhistische Göttin der Barmherzigkeit). Canon ist heute der größte Kamerahersteller der Welt; das Unternehmen bietet jedoch auch Scanner, Drucker, Videokameras, Ferngläser sowie Fax- und Kopiergeräte.
